Air India will launch flights between Delhi and Melbourne from to be operated by Boeing 787s, according to a report in India’s The Telegraph newspaper.
“Direct flights to Australia are the top priority for us,” an Air India official is quoted by the paper as saying. “The route will be profitable for Air India and is a key ingredient of the turnaround plan.”

Air India is in line to be the second operator of the 787, after All Nippon. 787 development aircraft ZA002 visited India last week after it completed service ready operational validation testing with ANA in Japan.
