China Eastern is to increase its Melbourne-Shanghai service to a daily schedule from June 20.
“We are very pleased that China Eastern has chosen to increase the frequency of its services to Melbourne,” Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff said. “With China as our number one long haul market, the new daily service confirms Melbourne as a premier destination for Chinese travellers.”

Woodruff also noted an overall 22 per cent growth over 2009 in Chinese passport holders arriving in Melbourne last year, and tipped another increase on that figure for 2011.
China Eastern currently operates a four times weekly service between Melbourne and Shanghai.
