“Spike” warns the WSO. Glancing at the TEWS, I can see for minimum range crosses the HUD. A huge fireball blooms the offending radar painting us. We have been cruising in at a leisurely 5000 feet without emitting any electronic signals, waiting for the first “sniff” from the thicket of enemy radars in North Korea. Time for a bit of mud crawling.

I roll the Eagle on its back and pull for the dirt at 40 degrees nose down while we are still in friendly territory. TEWS shows the radar in North Korea loses contact as we pass 2000 feet, but I keep diving until we are just 300 feet off the deck. The first target is easy-guard posts on the border. The upfront display shows six miles (11km) to run. Almost time to pop up. I risk a short paint on the radar and the reward is the target symbol dead ahead.

“Fence in,” declares the WSO as we cross the border and are now in a free fire zone in the North. The first target should be easy, and I select the CBU-87s on wing station three. At four miles I reef the nose up to plus 40 degrees, wait until I pass 2500 feet, roll inverted nose down 15 degrees, pull back to 20% throttle and look for the target.
