Pratt& Whitney Canada is developing family of small turbofan engines, to be known as the PW500 family. The new engines will be in the 3000 to 40001b thrust class, and will be aimed primarily for corporate jets. Superseding the highly successful JT15 (more than 5000 of which were delivered to Cessna), the PW500 family will be of twin spool configuration and take advantage of P&WC's Integral Bladed Rotor technology(developed for the JT15O) for the single stage fan plus boost stage for more powerful models. Dash 8-400 Set for Launch:
The long awaited launch of the Bombardier owned De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400. stretched regional turboprop is expected early next year following talks with major risk sharing partners.
It is claimed the 70 seat, 350kt (648kmh) Dash 8-400 will have a high degree of commonality with the existing 38 passen- ger-100/200 and 50 passenger-300 aircraft, although it will feature a new wing centre section, revised flaps and ailerons, increased fuel capacity, new engine nacelles, propel- lers and landing gear and a fuselage stretch of nearly six metres (20ft) compared with the-300. Engine choice has yet to be made, candidates including the Allison GMA2100, P&WC PW300, Lycoming LTP6000 and GE GLC38.
