• The French Government has given guarantees that Air France Concorde operations will continue until at least the end of 1984. The seven Air France Concordes are operated on the Paris/New York route and government officials have said that the 50-60% load factors are considered “satisfactory”. The government pays all of the Air France Concorde’s depreciation and financial costs and, in addition, 90% of operating losses.

• Powerplant decisions have been announced by Qantas for its recent airliner orders. The Rolls-Royce RB211-524D4 has been selected for the Boeing 747-300s. It is the first order for the D4s and the first use of RB211s in a stretched upper deck 747. The 767-200ERS will be powered by Pratt & Whitney JT9D-7R4E8.
