China of Importance to Australian Aviation
China of Significant Importance to Australian Aviation
Imagine a market with a population 66 times the size of Australia. Imagine a market that even today boasts the equivalent of one million millionaires. Imagine a market that last year saw air traffic grow by a third and set to double every two and a half to three years.
Sounds great. It is, and it’s modern day China – just one convenient air sector from Australia.
fact that on June 30 1997 Hong Kong will become a part of China throwing up in the air Australia’s entire air services regime to that nation. Bilateral negotiations between China and Australia are scheduled through the final quarter of this year which will hopefully clarify the position. Ideally what is needed is for multiple designation status where more than one Australian carrier can serve a number of ports in post 1997 China. Qantas already operates 21 services a week to HK whilst Cathay Pacific reciprocates with similar capacity with Ansett becoming a player later in the year.
