A new fuel quality control centre has been opened by the Royal Australian Air Force at RAAF Base Edinburgh in South Australia.
The new centre is located around 25 kilometres north of Adelaide and would be available for use by No. 92 Wing’s P-8A Poseidon aircraft used to conduct surveillance operations throughout Australia’s airspace.

RAAF Base Edinburgh is also home to the following: Air Warfare Centre, No. 453 Squadron Edinburgh Flight – air traffic control, No. 24 (City of Adelaide) Squadron – airbase support, No. 87 Squadron – intelligence, No. 292 Squadron – sensor operator training, No. 1 Remote Sensor Unit – Jindalee Operational Radar Network, No. 1 Expeditionary Health Squadron Detachment Edinburgh, No. 1 Combat Communication Squadron Flight Edinburgh, No. 10 Squadron and No. 11 Squadron.
“This advanced facility will allow us to test fuel quality in hours, eliminating the need for contracted services,” a statement published by the RAAF said.
“The project is of great significance to base operations and the project was the first of its kind to be funded by the Joint Capabilities Group Minor Projects Program established by Commander Joint Capabilities in 2023.”
