Sunshine Coast Airport has cut the ribbon on its new arrivals and baggage claim area.
Opened last week, the new precinct includes a longer 92-metre baggage carousel; upgraded passenger facilities including new bathrooms and seating; and an “efficient water-cooling system” for the terminal.

“The new arrivals precinct and baggage claim is another significant milestone in the transformation of Sunshine Coast Airport,” said airport CEO Chris Mills.
“Passengers arriving on the Sunshine Coast will now collect their bags in a modern, purpose-built space almost three times the size of our former arrivals and baggage claim area.
“The longer carousel provides more room for passengers to comfortably collect their luggage, while allowing more bags to be delivered at any one time, creating a smoother and more efficient arrival experience.”
Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Rosanna Natoli has welcomed the overhaul, saying it shows the city “has arrived” as a destination.
“The transformation of Sunshine Coast Airport is helping to create a facility that reflects the growth and ambition of our region. It shows we are truly maturing as a destination,” she said.
“We know that a modern, well-connected airport is vital to supporting our local economy, attracting visitors and creating opportunities for businesses and the wider community.
“When you get off the plane and you come to collect your baggage here, you see that we are a modern, vibrant, forward-thinking community. That it’s a place you want to visit, a place where you want to do business, a place where you love to live, and that’s what this says.
“We have an airport that is going to be of this standard right throughout, not just in the baggage claim. This is just the beginning, and it really is that symbol to everyone that we’ve arrived.”
Sunshine Coast Airport expects 1.8 million passengers this year and 2.4 million by 2030, with more current capacity in core Sydney and Melbourne markets than any point in its history.
Earlier this year, it opened a new “state-of-the-art” outbound baggage facility featuring several hundred metres of new conveyor belts, alongside Rapiscan CT screening technology, higher throughput, and updated infrastructure to “minimise operational disruptions and downtime”.
The airport was in November approved for a new mixed-use “Gateway Precinct”, including its terminal expansion as well as hotel, retail, and commercial opportunities.
