Cathay Pacific announced on March 27 it would buy Hong Kong-based low-cost carrier (LCC) HK Express from HNA Aviation Group for HK$4. 93 billion.
The company said, in a regulatory filing to the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, that buying HK Express was an attractive and practical way to support the long-term development and growth of its aviation business and to enhance its competitiveness. Cathay Pacific said HK Express, which has 24 Airbus A320 family aircraft flying to destinations in China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, would continue operating as a stand-alone airline and maintain its LCC business model.
