From the regions
The engineering Training Action Group (ETAG) comprising of Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers’ Association and Aviation Maintenance Repair and Overhaul Business Association and the Regional Aviation Association of Australia has urged CASA to support an urgent review and redevelopment of CASR Part 66 and the Manual Of Standards.
This regulatory framework is one of the two contributing factors resulting in the exponential decline of (L)AME apprentices. In 2009 there were 779 apprentices, in 2013 the number was 398, and by next year it is estimated there will be less than 100 in Australia. The issue of apprentice (L)AME uptake has come to the fore after these staggering figures were released, further illustrating the need for critical change in the education framework system to allow apprentices to gain ICAO recognised qualifications.
