Flying – and not flying – in reduced visibility conditions
In a practical sense a VFR pilot needs to think ahead, plan ahead then fly the plan. His situational awareness needs to be working and be good.
Winter in now upon us and as pilots we can expect to see more rain and reduced visibility. The ability to obtain the forecast, read it and understand it, not just the winds but also the visibility, particularly during the winter months, is vital. One should always read the forecast and pay attention to the minimum visibility forecast for the intended route as well as at the aerodromes enroute.
