Getting the elephant off the back
Regional aviation lumbers under a heavy regulatory load
Reality has struck and things are back to ‘normal’ in regional aviation. In other words it is a tough market, and likely to remain so for some time.
The regional aviation industry provides essential services across the nation so to a certain extent they are somewhat inelastic. However, the recent confected outrage over politicians chartering aircraft has not helped matters. Aviation solutions can often prove to be the most cost-efficient when time and distance are factored into the working day. The industry should not shy away from such controversies but continue to argue its case as the provider of one of the backbones of the Australian transport system. As the distances grow so does aviation’s attractiveness. This seems to have been lost in some of the more hysterical commentary.
