Long View
Airservices and Defence are working to ensure Onesky is not just about changing “kit”, but changing culture and capabilities
While the procurement of Australia’s new air traffic management system may capture headlines, it is the organisational transformation activities within Airservices and the RAAF that the new system will allow, that should deliver real operational benefits to industry.
The 2009 federal government’s Aviation White Paper documented a view that considerable organisational and operational benefits could arise through collaboration between Airservices and the RAAF. Both organisations had separate air traffic management (ATM) systems that were due for replacement at around the sametime – Airservices’ TAAATS, Defence’s ADATS – which provided a generational opportunity for both organisations to align their ATM systems, as well as achieve benefits from other areas of harmonisation.
