Essential change
Time for a structural and systemic rebuild of CASA
Of the 270+ submissions received by the Aviation Safety Regulatory Review, a common theme appears to be the unpredictability of CASA decision-making processes and systems which embed poor outcomes for industry, rather than creating opportunities for efficiency and win-win scenarios.
The evidence of individual companies has poured in, highlighting a CASA culture that is based on stopping industry from innovating and removing any hope of facilitation by CASA. Whether it is manufacturing aircraft or parts, undertaking design, or simply trying to safely complete a mission, the culture from our regulator starts with a ‘NO’ and then seeks reasons to justify that often incoherent stance.
