The Corsair has flown!

The long-awaited post-restoration first flight of Chance Vought F4U‑5N Corsair VH-III took place at Darwin on Sunday May 4, with well-known warbird and former RAAF pilot Peter Clements at the controls.

The CASA-approved test schedule comprised three flights over two days. The first flight lasted 20 minutes, with the second and third flights taking one hour and 20 minutes each. Peter commented that out of all the post-restoration test flights that he has done this aircraft performed the best. Nothing went wrong and apart from having to change an unhappy cylinder head temperature gauge – that was it.
