Register Review

Two new types and one heavily modified older type are included in the New Allocations this issue covering a WW2 fighter, an amateur-built replica and a medium sized biz jet.

The Yakovlev Yak-3 was a Soviet WW2 fighter which was much loved by Russian pilots and ground crew for its performance and its easy to maintain design. Unfortunately its entry into service during 1944 meant that it did not see much action although during dogfights with German fighters towards the end of the war it acquitted itself very well indeed. So well in fact that the Luftwaffe issued instructions to its fighter pilots to avoid contact with the Yak-3 in low-level dogfights. At the time most pilots who flew the aircraft rated it better than the Mustang and Spitfire.
