Qantas turns up the heat with online petition

Overload says: Just so I understand this clearly: Qantas wants to stop its only competitor, and a much smaller one at that, from getting access to the funds they require to compete against their much larger competitor.

Big Red says: I don’t recall the last time Qantas received a handout from the government unlike our struggling car industry.

Are 30,000 airline jobs ranked below automotive jobs? All I see Qantas asking for is a level playing field and no subsidy.

It’s very disappointing to see a slow reaction on this matter by federal government.

Qantas flags 1,000 job cuts as red ink starts to flow

Ben says: Virgin made me do it? What next? The dog ate my homework? “In November, Virgin signalled its intention to continue its strategy, which is designed to weaken Qantas in the domestic market…” News flash AJ, that’s called competition… that’s what they are supposed to be doing!

Senate calls for Qantas investment

John says: I believe the Government should not directly invest in Qantas, but should change the Qantas Sale Act to allow any single airline to own up to 40%, and the government should change the aircraft depreciation laws in this country, to put Qantas on an equal footing with the likes of Emirates and Singapore Airlines in this regard.

To allow overseas control of Qantas would then mean all the major players in Australian aviation would be overseas owned and controlled, not a good situation!

noise complaints are being made by people who knowingly moved into the vicinity of the base.

What a joke.

Tigerair expands Brisbane base

TrashHauler says: Nice work Tiger.

Watch this space and wait for Jetstar to have a whinge just like Qantas!

Lockheed Martin marks 100th F-35

John N says: 100 down and 3,000 to go! Another good step forward for the F-35, the program certainly seems to have settled down in the last year or so, yes there is still a way to go with testing and software loads, etc, but all appears to be heading in the right direction.

Hopefully by the next Budget (in May 2014), we should see some news from the government when the next batch of 12 will be ordered for the RAAF and hopefully a timetable for the next batch of 58 to be ordered too.

Brindabella suspends services, calls in receivers

Peter L says: I do not know about anyone else but my experience with Brindabella over the past two years has not been good.

Planes were always late, I have had planes cancelled at the last minute and I do not mean recently either.

Brindabella never pass on information needed to update the arrival or departure boards at Canberra airport making it very frustrating when trying to find out what is going on.

Then Brindabella started cancelling routes altogether, eg Canberra-Tamworth etc, the sort of routes we want to see from our regionals, bypassing hubs.

Brindabella has been in decline for some time and just how bad is seen with CASA grounding aircraft due to maintenance issues.

Did this all start when a change in ownership took place you have to ask?
