Fly buys
Scratching the bug of owning your own aeroplane
I’ve heard it all before. “If it floats or flies, rent it,” and “if you want to make a small fortune, start with a big one and buy an aeroplane”. It all makes perfect sense to me and yet still I feel the emotion rising and the logic fading as I flick through the pages of aircraft for sale. Maybe, just maybe. . .
Method behind the madness
Despite prior warnings and shaking heads, I have owned a couple of aeroplanes over the years and enjoyed the privilege. It is dubious whether it was a financially sound move, but not everything in life is about money. There was a pride in maintaining the aircraft in the best possible state and knowing that I was the only person flying it. They were always available and never arrived back late from a previous booking with unscheduled maintenance required.
