The iPad makes its mark on the flightdeck

The brown ring-binders full of Jeppesen charts have been increasingly assigned to history and the rustling of unfolding maps has gone silent. Flightdecks have increasingly moved into the digital age over recent years, but the implementation of iPads within Qantas has resulted in a number of positive changes, many of which have exceeded expectations.

Teething problems

Change comes with hurdles – just ask any major aircraft manufacturer. Converting a paper system that had been utilised for decades within a workforce that thrives upon standard operating procedures was always going to be a challenge. And yet the change came.
