Macchi For Cranbourne Memorial
A CAC-built Macchi MB-326H is to be the feature of a memorial to all ADF personnel killed in training accidents.
The memorial, scheduled to be completed by February 2013, is to be located at the redeveloped Cranbourne RSL site on the south Gippsland Highway, south-east of Melbourne. The aircraft obtained for the memorial is understood to be ex-RAN Macchi serial N14-087 that later became RAAF serial A7-087. The aircraft was delivered to the navy in 1971 before being passed to the RAAF in June 1983 when the Navy’s Fleet Air Arm was disbanded. When completed, the aircraft will be displayed in the navy blue and white colour scheme. There were 97 Macchi jets in RAAF and RAN service of which 24 crashed.
