Aviation – an obvious career choice?

It’s that time of year again when another crop of school leavers will be making choices about the career that may sustain them for decades to come. The competition for Generation Y’s attention in a climate of skills shortages is likely to be ferocious, but aviation seems to struggle to find its voice as a competitor.

While our advantages are obvious to those already in the industry, the costs and impediments put in the way by the nature of the job and by less than best-practice regulation serve as major disincentives.

AAAA has done a great deal of work to underscore the importance of bringing business skills and professionalism into the industry, but it is often ‘passion’ that brings people to aviation in the first place. One could argue that is also why people stay in aviation despite the industry.
