ADF Helicopters in crisis
The protracted grounding of the MRH 90 fleet is compounding problems the ADF is experiencing across a large proportion of its helicopter capabilities.
Following a catastrophic engine failure and safe landing during crew training at RAAF Edinburgh on April 20, the fleet of 11 MRHs delivered to date have remained grounded while a drawn out investigation conducted by DSTO and the engine manufacturer, RTM is carried out. Three months later and with no planned return to flight date in place yet, such a furlough in the life of a new type is a long time, especially from a crew training point of view where currency let alone seniority on the type are at a premium.
