MRH 90s grounded after engine failure
The ADF’s service introduction of the MRH 90 has been thrown into chaos following a catastrophic failure of an MRH’s RTM322-01/9 engine during a flight near Edinburgh on April 20.
The incident led to the grounding of the ADF’s MRH fleet, although news of that did not emerge until Defence released a statement almost a month later on May 18. That statement confirmed the ADF had immediately suspended MRH 90 flying operations following the failure, and that specialists from engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce Turbomeca had been brought to Australia to assist the DSTO with forensic analysis of the engine’s components to determine why the RTM322 engine failed.
