The transition to Class D and NTAs
Australia finally bid farewell to the contentious General Aviation Aerodrome Procedures (GAAP) on June 3, with the unique set of procedures now replaced by more globally recognised Class D procedures.
In service since the 1970s, GAAP was significantly altered last year after two CASA commissioned reports found that there were “unacceptable risks” from the procedures. As those changes were came without wide industry consultation, it led to an outcry against CASA, with many flying schools and other operators caught short by the fast pace of the changes.
