First taxi for A400M

A400M taxi 24 November_The prototype Airbus Military A400M is one step closer to first flight after taxiing under it own power for the first time on November 23.

The taxi tests, conducted at Seville in southern Spain, saw the aircraft perform a series of low speed runs up to 20kt (37km/h) as well as steering, braking and reverse tests.

“We were impressed with the ease with which we could taxi the aircraft in terms of the precision and ease of use of the nosewheel steering and the effectiveness of the braking systems in this first test at low speed,” chief test pilot military Ed Strongman said in a statement.

Higher speed taxi tests are expected to be performed in the coming days prior to first flight in December.
