Auckland sees marginal passenger growth

written by australianaviation.com.au | October 23, 2009

Auckland International Airport saw marginal increases in both domestic and international traffic during September, but has been buoyed by strong increases in passengers travelling from Australia and the US.

International departures rose by 4.1 per cent over the same month last year, but this was offset by a 17 per cent decline in transit and transfer traffic through the airport, bringing the net increase to only 1.2 per cent. Nevertheless, the airport noted that arrivals from the US increased by 12.2 per cent, while arrivals from Australia increased by 15.4 per cent as competition spurred on more traffic.

The airport also recorded a 1.8 per cent increase in domestic passengers, while domestic aircraft movements fell by 7.4 per cent.
