Airlines of Tasmania Metro III VH-NEM was withdrawn from service on December 31 on termination of its lease from Fairchild. VH-NEM was then ferried to Tamworth where Tamair prepared it for its ferry flight to Karlshamm, Sweden and its lease to local operator International Business Air. Airlines of Tasmania replaced VH-NEM with its former Metro II VH-NEL which was transferred from Tamair operations. For the month of January VH-NEL operated with Airlines of Tasmania still carrying Tamair’s special colour scheme promoting the Tamworth Music Festival.
Airnorth has terminated its lease on Metro III VH-CUZ and returned the aircraft to Fairchild Aircraft. It is expected however that Fairchild will lease VH-CUZ to another Australian operator.
Arnhem Air was purchased by NT charter operator Kakadu Air in late ’95 and Kakadu Air had initially elected to operate its RPT services using the Arnhem Air name. EMB-110P1 VH-KHA was registered to Kakadu Air in early December with the Bandeirante operating under Arnhem Air titles. Kakadu Air Cessna 402B’s VH-KQA and VH-TWX are also reported to be carrying Arnhem Air titles. The original Arnhem Air fleet of PA-31 and P-68B aircraft has been withdrawn from service and is being offered for sale.
