Search & Rescue Australia Search & Rescue Australia (SAR), based at Merimbula on the NSW far south coast has high hopes of selling its PADS Precision Aerial Delivery System to Asian SAR authorities after successfully demonstrating the system recently at SAREX 1994, held at a Thai naval base at Sattahip. SAR made demonstrations of its unique PADS unit to an audience of military personnel and pilots from Asia and Europe who were reportedly very keenly interested in the system. Like Australia, most Asian countries have no formal SAR organization, and interest in PADS was high. The PADS system accurately air drops canisters or Storpedos which contain a marine pump, a six person liferaft, medical supplies, food, water and other pieces of equipment needed for survival at sea. Here a Cessna 310 drops a PADS canister containing the US Coast Guard marine pump.
