The Australian Amphibious Environmental Unit, a division of Miller Technologies, ,s now at an advanced stage of negotiations to acquire factory refurbished aircraft from Canadair, and is aiming to commence crew training in October. AAEU is negotiating water bombing contracts with the Federal and State governments. Introduction of the aircraft here will for the first time provide fire authorities with a first strike capability, especially on hitherto inaccessible fires. If Canadian methods are adopted, AAEU aircraft will be directed onto inaccessible fires with the aim of suppression until ground units can take control.

the Best of the Past
– Preserving and Flying Aviation’s Fifty Year Legacy: Brian M Simcox This large book will no doubt appeal to the warbird enthusiast with its big air-to- air colour photos and takeoff to landing flight reports on the Stearman, Texan, Mustang and B-17. Having seen several of the restored warbirds presented in the book this reviewer can say that they look as good in the photographs as on the flightline.
The latter parts of the publication cover restoration and then preservation of the best of the past. Needless to say the book only looks at the US scene but that does not detract from its overall coverage. One can say that if it must have been enjoyable gathering material for this book and that feeling is brought out in the final presentation.
