Air Safety – “PressOnitis”
A Tale of Press on Regardless
This is a tale of events that took place on a day some forty one years ago, but the morals to be drawn are as applicable as if it had all happened yesterday.
In subsequent years I used to recount the events of this particular day to my students, in the hope that it might save them from falling into the same traps as I did. I’m telling it again in the hope (forlorn?) that it might make just one pilot stop and think before he embarks on a trip that takes him and his unfortunate passengers into oblivion.
All through my first front line squadron posting I saved with the intention of buying a car as soon as we got back to Australia; I should add that the squadron was embarked in our first aircraft carrier, HMAS Sydney.
