Flight Impressions – Boeing 747-400 Simulator
Qantas 747 Flight Simulator
Recently, as a part of a briefing on the Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) now fitted to Qantas’s aircraft (refer p42 Aug 93 AA), I was given the opportunity to fly the 747-400 simulator.
All told I had just over an hour which was mostly spent on the TCAS demonstration, but at the end I eagerly took the opportunity offered for some general handling and a couple of circuits and landings.
Obviously with such a limited exposure only a general impression of the aircraft is possible, however what might be of interest is what it feels like to be put in the left hand seat of a 747, with no prior briefing, and told to get on with it! However, before doing so I should mention that this was not my first meeting with a Qantas 747 simulator, that occurred twenty years ago.
