Amidst traditional Fijian dancing and kava drinking, Air Pacific’s new administration centre and hangar at Nadi International was recently opened, marking an important milestone in the international carrier’s plans which will see it evolve into a notable force in the Pacific basin and Asia regions.

Not that the airline is moving headlong into a programme of rampant expansion, rather it is treading carefully amidst a climate of low yields, over supplied routes and declining tourism markets in its bread and butter sources of Australia and New Zealand. The opening of the centre, which will provide the backbone for the airline’s maintenance, administration and operations activities, is pivotal in the airline’s current five year plan.

Managing director and CEO of Fiji’s international airline, Andrew Drysdale has been with the airline since joining as an apprentice in 1964 and has witnessed the effects of varying markets on the performance of what used to be a purely regional carrier.
