Reno Style Air Racing for Tassie
Reno Style Air Racing Comes to Australia
Its not often in this materialistic age of ours that you come across a group of people who are prepared to put a considerable amount of effort into promoting the fun side of aviation, without making a buck for themselves. The Tasmanian Aero Club is the group in question and they have dreamt up the idea of a round Tasmania air race, to be followed by several days of pylon racing at Launceston Airport, all with the purpose of furthering the cause of sport and general aviation in this country.
If you attended Avalon last year you may have come across the Australian National Air Races Pty Ltd (ANAR) stall which was promoting the proposed around Tasmania navigation race and the Reno style pylon air racing.
The Tasmanian Aero Club, which is a not for profit organisation controlled by elected volunteers, formed ANAR to manage the events; the company being wholly owned by the club, The aim of the Avalon promotion was to determine industry reaction to the proposed events, as well as that of the private flier and towards this end, a pamphlet advertising the races and seeking expressions of interest was floated during the Aero- space Expo.
