Farewell the Tap
After ruling the domestic air transpor t roost for 38 years, the dreaded Two Airline Policy (TAP) finally was laid to rest at midnight on October 30.
Fittingly, the aviation hierarchy of the DoTC moved to hold a wake for the TAP that proved to be the aviation industry’s night of the decade. That the DoTC chose the Melbourne Zoo as their party venue was a stroke of humour not lost on many of those present, who in the best traditions of cost recovery naturally paid their own entry. Whether or not the symbology of the venue reflected the general sentiments regarding the performance of the TAP these past four decades or the emergence of a new and uncharted era is better left to the individual.
