Airport Development Boom Analysed
Sydney’s Kingsford-Smith Airport Leading Billion Dollar Airport Building Boom
Driven by record numbers of air travellers, development of Sydney’s airports is set to boom.
Projects approved or proposed for Sydney (Kingsford-Smith) Airport will be worth over $1 billion by the end of the century and an equal amount is likely to be invested in new aviation related buildings in the suburbs surrounding the airport.
The sudden surge in activity is being fostered by the Federal Airports Corporation (FAC). Since its inception at the beginning of the year, the FAC has played the role of local council and landlord at the 17 airports it controls throughout the country. To the FAC, increased development means increased revenue. Ultimately, it is planned that all the airports will be profitable centres.
