Ansett and the 146
In April 1971 Hawker Siddeley Aviation at Hatfield commenced design work on a new jet feederliner. The aircraft was projected to carry 70 passengers over a 700 nautical mile range from a 3,500-4,000 foot runway and was seen as a replacement for the many piston and turbine-powered twin-engined aircraft then used for that type of operation.
