Brian Grey
Bryan Grey joined Ansett in 1958 as chief internal auditor. In 1961, when Ansett took over Mandated Airlines in PNG he joined it as assistant general manager and company secretary. After three years, when Ansett started Channel 0, Melbourne, he transferred back there as controller for 18 months. Grey then went back to PNG from 1966-69 as assistant general manager of Ansett Airlines of Papua New Guinea, and from 1970-71 assistant commercial manager, of Ansett Airlines of Australia. In 1971 he went to Chicago to Tracoa, a tours wholesaler, as Vice President. From 1973-75 general manager of Talair, during which time it took over Macair and Solair and built up to 65 aircraft. In 1976-79 he was general manager of Air Nuigini after being invited to take over the task by Prime Minister Michael Somare.
JM: Air Niugini has seen its share of controversy. What was it like in those days?
