AFTS Flight Safety Starts With Good Flying Training!

The story of the Australian Flying Training School is essentially the story of Barney Fernandes. It is a success story; success that has been the result of very long and hard toil, willingness to invest time and money in a believed-in concept, idealism, and a dream for the future of professional pilot training in Australia.

Seventeen years ago, in his birthplace, India, Barney decided to leave his Air Force appointment as Battalion Commander at the Indian National Defence Academy, a joint-services college that boasted fifteen hundred cadets, and migrate to Australia. He retired with the rank of ‘Wing Commander’.

Arriving in Australia, this vastly experienced airman sought and found employment with the national carrier. He became an Instructor in the Qantas Cadet Pilot Training Scheme.
