Starting 29 March, the daily EK430/31 service will be operated by the four-class 777-300ERs, complementing the A380 service introduced last year. All five Emirates destinations in Australia – Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide – have premium economy service.

Drones

A Flinders University study, conducted in collaboration with Sea World on the Gold Coast, demonstrated how drones can be used to assess the health of marine mammals without requiring hands-on methods like tagging devices, or taking measurements during capture and handling.

Helicopters

In April 2018, experienced pilot Philip O’Driscoll crashed his helicopter, a Bell UH-1H registered VH-HUE, during a lifting operation to move a large drill-rig in NSW’s Snowy Mountains.

Captain Brandon Fisher is seeking US$10 million ($14.9 million) in damages from Boeing for personal injury, defamation, emotional distress, and other complaints over “reprehensible and inaccurate” statements the company made following the incident on Alaska Airlines flight 1282.

Drones

NSW Police Aviation Command (POL AIR) has stationed two drones in Moree, to be remotely operated from Bankstown Airport, for proactive aerial surveillance. The six-month trial will see the drones used as “eyes in the skies” to assist first-response police officers.

Sustainability

Research co-led by the University of Oxford, published in Nature Communications Earth & Environment, says airlines could dramatically cut their carbon footprints by using more fuel-efficient planes, increasing load factors, and moving to all-economy layouts.
