From 1 July, 2024, the PMC – which has been set at $60 per passenger since 2017 – will be increased to $70 despite tourism peaks warning that it could hamper the sector’s post-COVID recovery.
The heads of the Tourism and Transport Forum (TTF), the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA), and the Australian Airports Association (AAA) have written to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese ahead of this week’s Budget urging the Government not to raise the PMC for five years, having received “informal advice” of plans to increase the fee.
From 1 July, work restrictions for subclass-500 student visa holders – which were suspended in January 2022 to address workforce shortages – will be reintroduced, with the cap increasing from 40 to 48 hours per fortnight. dnata has called on the Government to delay these changes for 18 months, saying they will produce a labour gap equivalent of 150 people.
Billed as a “vertiport in a box”, the setup is pitched at private building owners as an “affordable, modular, turn-key solution” that can offer utility while the aircraft are still waiting on certification.
The event – curated by Australian Aviation’s sister brand Defence Connect – will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel on 3 May and hosted by former Defence Minister Christopher Pyne.
