Police are investigating after a man allegedly attempted to steal a helicopter from a hangar at Mackay Airport late last week. CCTV footage later captured the attempted thief trying to flee the scene atop a red tractor.
The ATSB said the long-line lifting operations the pilot was conducting made it impractical to wear the safety device because of the need to lean out and look below the helicopter.
