As Australia waited for the National Cabinet to announce the return of flying, Alan Joyce seized the initiative early and revealed he’ll hugely increase capacity in July. But will his plan be profitable?
The $14.5 million complex will be situated at Cloncurry Aerodrome in Queensland’s north-west and will include the construction of a 2km long runway.
Airly will also restart flights to Byron Bay and Mt Hotham, after capitalising on major airlines grounding planes during COVID-19.
The special flight, SA2982, landed in the Queensland capital on 6 June and is reported to fly the other way on 9 June.
The union has also said members will travel to Canberra tomorrow ahead of a separate vote urging the scheme to be widened to excluded businesses.
Now the country is in ‘Alert Level 1’, passengers will now be able to eat hot food in the airline’s lounges, and unaccompanied minors can travel domestically again.
