The 2024–25 financial year saw 17.48 million passengers through Perth’s terminals, up 8.5 per cent on the 16.1 million last year. This includes 5.14 million international passengers, up 18.3 per cent on last year, and a new domestic record driven by continued growth in regional travel.
The Australian firm will head a “global consortium of architecture and design companies” to overhaul the terminals as part of Perth’s $5 billion capital works program, which is designed to bolster the airport’s role as a western gateway to Australia.
A “bomb cyclone” off the NSW coast on Tuesday created heavy rain and strong winds that presented hazards to flying. 38 flights had been cancelled as at 5pm on Tuesday, with more flights scheduled for later in the evening also axed.
The regional airport in South Australia received $16.2 million from the federal government and $13.8 million from the state government to strengthen its main runway, with Whyalla City Council also funding $2.4 million in works including runway lighting upgrades.
The airport has installed four new layover bays to support Code F aircraft like the A380, as well as upgrading two existing bays for Code E aircraft such as the 777, A340, or A350, with a flexible configuration to support up to six Code E or four Code E and two Code F aircraft.
