Australian Border Force officers stopped a man aged 62 for a baggage examination after he arrived at Brisbane Airport on an international flight from Los Angeles on 5 September this year.
The man aged in his 40s suffered injuries to his head and chest after being hit by a towing vehicle at the Qantas international freight terminal at around 10:30 on Sunday morning, and could not be revived. Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
The terminal, which opened to the public on 5 September 1995, replaced an interim “tin shed” building that had served as the international terminal for around 20 years. It now has 19 aerobridges servicing 26 airlines to 35 direct destinations, and is undergoing a major renovation.
Part of Bankstown’s $60 million Aviation Hangar Project Major Development Plan (MDP), the project will see the construction of two new hangars and associated facilities, which will support up to 10 GA operations in the southwest Sydney region.
The fourth stage of the Gold Coast light rail, which would have connected Burleigh Heads to Coolangatta via the airport, has been given the chop and will be potentially replaced by “multi-modal transport” including more rapid bus services and possible future heavy rail.
