The terminal, which opened in late 2025, was judged on “energy efficiency, operational performance, environmental impact reduction and sustainable building practices”, with GBCA chief executive Davina Rooney calling the rating a “significant milestone”.
The “comprehensive upgrades to the runway, taxiways and aprons” will be funded by $14.7 million from the Commonwealth, $14 million from the WA Government and about $12.9 million from the City of Albany, and will support passenger flights as well as FIFO and future firefighting operations.
Moorabbin, one of Victoria’s major general aviation airports and the second busiest in the country by aircraft movements, was previously owned by Goodman Group, which will retain a stake as part of the new consortium that also includes Rest Super and Aware Super.
The airport recorded a total 570,703 passengers for April 2026, up 41,606 on the same time last year and also surpassing the previous April record set in 2018. It comes after the airport saw one of its busiest-ever holiday periods earlier this year over the summer peak.
Chris Mills, who took over from Andrew Brodie after the latter’s departure in 2023, will leave the aviation sector later this year to take up a new opportunity after leading the airport through a “period of significant growth and transformation”.
Almost 200,000 domestic, regional and international passengers passed through Adelaide’s terminals in the week from 7–13 April, with the full month seeing a total of 791,000 people, up 4 per cent on the previous year.
