Renae and Stephanie Evans, who claimed to have suffered psychological trauma and spinal injuries when their plane suddenly dropped amid severe clear-air turbulence on board Air Canada Flight 33 from Vancouver to Sydney on 11 July 2019, had appealed for higher compensation from the airline.
The carrier on Wednesday said it would add 49,000 seats on Sydney and Melbourne services from the Queensland destination, commencing in July.
However, the airline hinted that the need to import such large quantities from other countries highlighted the “growing momentum” behind establishing SAF production in Australia.
In a statement issued after her reappointment, the returning transport minister stated that “preserving regional aviation” would form part of a “significant agenda” during the next three years.
ICAO found that Russia breached the prohibition under international law on the use of weapons against civil aircraft in flight. The incident claimed the lives of 298 people in 2014.
The incident, which took place on a flight from LA to Brisbane in December, resulted in the aircraft turning back to its departure airport before “loud bangs” were heard.
