The Chilean carrier will increase its non-stop Sydney–Santiago flights from three to seven days a week starting in November, with Melbourne to follow in December. Both schedules will run until March next year to coincide with the South American summer peak.
The airline blamed “rising supplier costs, high airport fees and intensified competition in the region” for the shock move but insisted the aircraft would help support its domestic fleet renewal program.
The low-cost carrier, which in 2014 axed a Darwin–Manila service launched several years prior, is looking to fly from Perth to Manila and Brisbane to Cebu using its A321neo LR fleet, having received approval from Australia’s International Air Services Commission in April.

Flight QF2, operated by A380 VH-OQB, was forced to land at Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport at around 7:55am local time after a female passenger in her 60s suffered a “life-threatening cardiac event” en route from London, as reported by the ABC.
The airline, which began flying to Perth in March as its first Australian destination, will double its frequency on the route from 18 July, having already expanded to a daily service, and will continue operating its 174-seat A320-200s.
