The Brisbane Airport Curfew and Demand Management Bill 2023, introduced as a private member’s bill by Greens transport spokesperson Elizabeth Watson-Brown, has not won the backing of the government or of Transport Minister Catherine King, the Greens said.

Dr Kille, an associate professor, program director and aviation discipline lead at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), has previously worked as a professional pilot and flight instructor as well as at ICAO.

The Wednesday flights will join the existing three flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 27 March, with the existing Thursday flights to operate on Fridays from 3 November this year. Jetstar says the addition of a fourth weekly service will boost annual capacity on the route by 24,000 seats.

The executive, who first joined the carrier in 2009, was seen as one of the leading contenders to replace Alan Joyce as CEO of Qantas Group before the role ultimately went to Vanessa Hudson.

Lorie Argus said the airport’s infrastructure improvements would allow more capacity and consumer choice and highlighted a need for more international airlines, possibly obliquely referring to the current Qatar Airways stoush.

The project, slated for completion in 2025, will see the size of the hall almost doubled, the existing three baggage carousels lengthened, a new carousel and oversized baggage collection point constructed, and new central escalators and anti-passback gates installed.
