The Lockheed Martin company expects the Black Hawk modernisation program involving the new GE Aerospace turbine engines to boost aircraft performance, combat capabilities and range. The Australian Defence Force has purchased 40 Black Hawks to replace its now-retired fleet of 47 Airbus-built MRH-90 Taipans.
RNZAF Air Commodore Susie Barns has joined Australia’s Air Command under a bilateral memorandum of arrangement, establishing the Deputy Air Commander Australia (DACAUST) role as an ongoing opportunity for senior RNZAF officers.
Delivered through six-week teaching blocks, the roughly 12-month course aims to teach “technical knowledge and strategic management skills” to potential industry leaders, the university said.
Born in Melbourne, His Honour Austin Asche AC KC spent his early years in Darwin and Melbourne, serving in the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II, and later earned a bachelor and master of laws from the University of Melbourne.
Hosted in support with principal partner Space Centre Australia, the two-day event will feature two main stages with more than 70 senior industry figures talking about the space and defence sectors.
The new centre is located at RAAF Base Edinburgh, around 25 kilometres north of Adelaide, and would be available for use by No. 92 Wing’s P-8A Poseidon aircraft used to conduct surveillance operations throughout Australia’s airspace.
