The crew of the Cessna 404 Titan, VH-LAD, chose to fly back to Emerald Airport 200km away when they detected the fumes in the cabin on 11 April 2024, which caused symptoms including headaches, dizziness and nausea.

The Royal Australian Air Force provided airlift between Canberra and Sydney and its aircraft were part of a tri-service flypast of Sydney Harbour, which included a Royal Australian Navy MH-60R Seahawk Romeo helicopter, an Army S-70 Blackhawk, two RAAF F-35A Lightning IIs, an F/A-18F Super Hornet, an EA-18G Growler, and other Navy and Army helicopters.

The aircraft, to be based in Broome, will support PHI’s offshore energy transportation activities, as well as search and rescue and medevac operations. The company has three Australian bases in Broome, Exmouth and Darwin.

The visits are part of a series of activities the Air Force is conducting across the north-west of WA, exploring opportunities, building relationships and exposing its people to operating from remote locations outside their home bases.
